About this product

Product Information

A bravura display of imagination by Rob Ives has produced this delightful collection of working automata to cut out and make. As you operate the mechanisms, the Hopping Sheep hop energetically and the Pecking Hen pecks keenly into its feeder. The rather sad Motley Man bows and acknowledges the applause he has earned and while The Flying Fish does not actually fly, it does flap its wings and undulate in a delightfully unexpected manner. Each of the mechanisms uses a different principle to generate motion, so this book is of special interest to those who like to see what remarkable things can be achieved with paper.

Item as described, good price, well packaged, arrived slightly later than hoped (not in time for Christmas ) but the order was placed in a very busy shipping period. No issue with the seller’s speed of response and sending the item. Great seller!

I was pleasantly surprised by how soon I received this textbook given that it shipped from outside the U.S. It was packaged well with no damage. The price was right. And I greatly appreciated the communication informing me where the book was shipping from and including a tracking number. Overall, a positive experience, - online shopping the way it should be. I've bought books from this seller several times now without any complaints and will surely buy from them again. Thanks a lot!

Quality and hard to find book that won't be released 'til January 2025 in the U.S.A. Fantastic price. Book was in a secure and protective package. Arrived a few days after I placed order and that was faster than I expected. Seller is a fantastic communicator and proactive in regards to tracking status. I'd definitely buy from them in the future.

  • 4 models for the price of 2, but not for beginners.....

Paper modeling isnt for everyone, for those of us who build paper models we all agree that it quickly becomes an addiction. This book comes with 4 models printed on quality photo type paper ready to cut out and glue. Each piece is clearly marked with letters/numbers that are referenced in written instructions. Each model has a different mechanism used for its animation, so while your having fun constructing your learning too. All the models are colored with only primary colors which I dont like. There are no illustrations to go along with the instructions. The instructions need to be more detailed or have illustrated examples for visual reference. The animation on a couple of models was very disappointing after all the cutting and confusion over instructions. Paper Automata isnt a ...

  • Paper Automata by Rob Ives

My husband builds automata and I got it as a springboard for ideas. Good book for older teens who enjoy building mechanical items. Kind of basic. There is a more challenging book written by Paul Spooner. I can't remember the name. My husband was happily challenged by the contents, and built everything. So the book doesn't exist anymore in our house.
